Toompea Castle and Hill

Good morning Weroaders and good morning Tallinn, it's time to get this show on the road!

After a hearty breakfast - have you tasted the salmon? - we will walk to Toompea hill: we will admire the panorama and enjoy the view of Toompea Castle, or Toompea loss, the seat of the Estonian parliament and national symbol.

The castle can be visited inside only one/two days a week so we'll probably have to settle for admiring it from the outside but it's still worth it....and we had to work off breakfast somehow!

A few steps from the castle we will find the oldest church in Estonia, the Toomkirik, from which the name of the hill derives. We will also visit the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the Church of San Nicola before stopping for lunch.

The historic center of Tallinn, a UNESCO heritage

Let's start our tour of the historic center along Via Pikk, also called the Long Street, one of the most beautiful and unusual streets in Tallinn! Remember this number: 71... that's where we'll find the House of the Blackheads, one of the most beautiful buildings in the city and seat of the ancient brotherhood.

We will then continue along via Vene, the ancient street of Russian merchants, to arrive at the passage of Santa Caterina, in Estonian Katariina käik, one of the most fascinating places in the center.

SPOILER: this area is full of artisan shops where you can look for the perfect souvenir!

Last but not least: the church of Sant'Olav, one of the oldest buildings in the city. Built way back in 1267 and dedicated to King Olaf II of Norway, it was for a long time the tallest building in Europe! We will also climb the bell tower, to admire a splendid view of the city after a climb of 256 steps: we are not doing it to keep you fit but only because tonight there will be our welcome dinner and we want you to be hungry.

Welcome dinner included in the travel fee. Admissions and tickets included in the common fund. Other meals and drinks to be paid by the individual participants

Finland here we come

The port of Tallinn is one of the most important in the region with ferries leaving to numerous destinations: one of these connects the Estonian capital to the Finnish capital, Helsinki. In about two hours we can cross the sea and reach a bonus country on our travels - so let’s do it!

Helsinki is a small city, lively and full of things to see. There we will find the Kauppatori, the beautiful port market where we can stop for a second breakfast once we get off the ferry.

Then a visit to the beautiful Temppeliaukio Church, the Lutheran church carved into the rock, a hop to the Senate Square with its beautiful Cathedral and, of course, a taste of some traditional Finnish food before returning to Tallinn for another unforgettable evening together!

Ferry to/from Helsinki and entrance fees included in the common fund. Meals and drinks to be paid by the individual participants.

From Estonia to Latvia

Bye Bye Tallinn, it really was a pleasure!

Today we will take our first bus as we make the move to Riga, the beautiful capital of Latvia. The trip will last about 4/5 hours so let's get comfortable, take the headphones out of the backpack and dust off the old playlists: how are you feeling today? Rock or Pop?!

Welcome to Latvia: let's start with the traditional!

Riga is a historical city - but it is a young heart with an ancient charm: with over 800 buildings in Art Nouveau style, the capital of Latvia is an absolutely unmissable destination for architecture enthusiasts.

Famous for its charming old town, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its cafés and restaurants that are always full of people, this city is ready to steal our hearts and... our tastebuds!

To start off on the right foot, we have to start with the traditions: beer, for example! And we will do it in a very particular way :-)

Bus and beer tasting included in the travel fee. Tickets and entrance fees included in the common fund. Meals and drinks to be paid for by the individual participants

Old Town and House of the Blackheads

After a good night’s rest we’ll be refreshed and ready to explore beautiful Riga. We will start with one of the most iconic and famous buildings in the city! Built way back in the 14th century, when it was the headquarters of the German merchants' guilds, it was completely destroyed during the Second World War, so the one that can be visited today is a faithful reconstruction of the original!

We will then enter the old city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and among characteristic narrow streets, buildings with extraordinary architecture and small clubs and shops we will arrive at Cathedral Square, the true heart of the Old City and one of the most important and beautiful squares in all of Riga.

Lunch at the Riga Central Market and street art

For lunch we can't miss the Central Market. Arranged in 5 different hangars, where Zeppelin airships were once built, today it is the right place to immerse yourself in a cross-section of Riga's everyday life! Here we will find everything: food, clothing, souvenirs, products of all kinds and, thankfully, FOOD!

And now that we have a full stomach, how about some street art? Riga has quite a few walls to see, especially made during the Blank Canvas Street Art Festival… will we be able to find any? And following in the footsteps of street art, we can't help but end the day in Miera Iela, the city's most hipster neighborhood, full of vintage shops, art galleries and multi-tasking shops that combine bookshops with barbershops and cafés. A young and constantly buzzing neighborhood, perfect for a beer!

Tickets and admissions included in the common box. Meals and drinks to be paid for by the individual participants

The last journey by bus

Today we’re on the move again. We travel by bus for a few hours to reach Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania! With magnificent Baroque center, a Unesco World Heritage Site, a wealth of monuments and works of art, and a lively international community. As a result, this city is a favourite amongst backpackers and all those who love culture and history but who don't want to give up on fun and good time....sounds like us, so here we go!

Independent Republic of Uzupis

Before entering the old town of Vilnius it is worth visiting one of the peculiarities of this city: the Independent Republic of Uzupis!

In 1997, the Uzupis of Vilnius declared its independence, complete with postage stamps, passports (will we get a stamp???) and a Constitution with 41 well-defined articles.

In the Republic of Uzupis, a real city within a city, cats and dogs are free to do as they please and the army is made up of a group of twelve artists. According to the current law, citizens have the right to love, to be free and happy, or even unhappy if they prefer, and to have hot water (let's all move to Uzupis!).

The neighborhood, once rather seedy and dangerous, has been then transformed following and invasion of intellectuals and artists: it is a picturesque place, full of cafés and art galleries, which many compare to Montmartre in Paris.

Bus included in the travel fee. Tickets and entrance fees included in the common fund. Meals and drinks at the expense of the individual participants
