Self-driven tour
This is a self-driven tour. We love a road trip us, and not just for the throwback playlists, but because it gives you the freedom to truly explore a destination. If you feel willing and comfortable to drive, let us know when booking. I'm sure that as a thanks, your non-driving travel buddies will keep you well-fed with snacks!
Attention travellers to Costa Rica, it is time to join the ticos (the Costa Ricans), to slow down and immerse ourselves in their corner of paradise! What will you see? Get ready to hike trails that lead to waterfalls in the jungle, explore volcanic lakes by kayak, encounter the wildest nature and learn to recognise its sounds and noises. On our tour of Costa Rica, you will finally get back to what life should be, so when it's time to say goodbye to this incredible country, you will take a little bit of pura vida home with you.
Travel Mood
The first two days of the trip are quite intense, with several transfers by minivan and boat (all worth it for the beauty of Tortuguero National Park). A good level of fitness is recommended to fully enjoy the trip, as a day of rafting is included and there are several optional activities, including trekking and surfing.
Travel Difficulty
Your coordinator will be able to drive but any volunteers amongst the travellers are also appreciated to share the driving! Willingness to drive in a 4x4 along sometimes unpaved roads of this part of Central America is ideal. There will be multiple transfers of several hours in duration, necessary to explore all the most fascinating parts of the country. Compact luggage is obligatory, as you will travel by private car for the entire journey, changing accommodation 7 times.
Is Costa Rica open for travel?
Yes, you can visit Costa Rica and currently COVID vaccination is not mandatory! For comprehensive requirements check the UK GOV website!
