India: a journey from Delhi to Varanasi
India: a journey from Delhi to Varanasi
This tour of India will surely be a gift to your senses, from the stunning temples of Delhi, the Ganges river in the holy city of Varanasi, all the way to the tasty, spicy local food! Unbelievable beauty at every corner, your eyes won’t believe the authentic charm of this country. The tour will guide you to discover the colours, scents, flavours and traditions of India, as well as appreciating the locals and their culture. We will visit some of the country’s most important cities; from Delhi, the capital, to Agra, home to the Taj Mahal, and finally Orchha, Kajuraho and Varanasi, the heart of Hinduism.
The tour begins in Delhi, but we will immediately head to the ghost town of Fathepur Sikri, and then to Agra, to admire one of the Seven Wonders of the World: the Taj Mahal. The next stops will be the historic city of Gwalior and then Orchha where we will learn how to cook some of the local delicacies. Then we're on an overnight train only to wake up in Varanasi.
When he visited this city, Mark Twain wrote “Benares is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend, and looks twice as old as all of them put together.” In Varanasi, the present still calls to the past. You have a unique opportunity to step right through time; on one side stands the bustling city and on the other side flows the river Ganges. We’ll get lost walking amongst the many river ghats and observe pilgrims celebrate their religious rituals. We’ll take a boat ride on these sacred waters and admire the Ganga Aarti ceremony, experiencing the spiritual essence of this city.
India is a land of stark contrasts, of extreme poverty and yet incredible wealth. One thing for sure, it will steal a piece of your heart!
